Line Scan vs Area Scan Camera: Mana untuk Aplikasi Anda?
Two camera architectures dominate industrial inspection, and choosing wrong makes an application far harder than it needs to be. The deciding factor is simple: is your product discrete or continuous?
Area scan: snapshots of discrete parts
An area scan camera captures a full 2D image in one shot — like a photo. It suits discrete objects that pause or pass one at a time: bottles, boxes, components, PCBs. Most inspection tasks start here because it is simple, flexible, and well understood.
Line scan: one line at a time
A line scan camera captures a single row of pixels at very high rate, building the image as the product moves under it. This is ideal for continuous material — paper, film, textile, metal coil — and for cylindrical objects unrolled as they rotate. It delivers extremely high resolution across a wide web without a giant, expensive area sensor.
Discrete parts favour area scan; continuous webs and rolling cylinders favour line scan. Match the sensor to how the product moves.
Getting it right
Line scan demands precise motion, encoder synchronisation, and strong lighting — details that decide success. As HIKROBOT's national distributor, GSO scopes the sensor, optics, lighting, and motion together so the system performs on a real, moving line.
